Joining the choir
Thank you to all who auditioned for the choir for 2017-18.
Any member of the University of Leeds – undergraduate, postgraduate, or staff – is welcome to audition for the choir. We look forward to seeing as many people as possible. The choir does not conflict with other University performing groups, especially the Music Society Chamber Choir and OperaSoc, so it is certainly possible to participate in those activities as well as the Clothworkers Consort with some negotiation around particular dates.
We have now filled all places in the choir and are no longer recruiting new singers for 2017-18. However, if you are interested in the choir, please do nevertheless get in touch (firstname.lastname@example.org) and we can discuss a possible audition at that time or for next year.
Auditions last approx. 10 minutes and consist of the following elements:
- Scales to warm up and determine voice range
- Pitch memory tests
- Sight-reading tests (particularly important)
- A short, familiar melody to sing (usually “God Save the Queen” because most people know it – but you are welcome to sing anything else unaccompanied!)
- Please print and bring with you a completed ‘Audition information sheet‘ (click to download editable Word file)
There is no need to prepare anything for the auditions.
Please note that the choir covers a large amount of difficult repertoire in a relatively short time; a strong emphasis is therefore placed upon sight-reading ability.
